Adoption

Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from PPRI! The Pet Pack Rescue Initiative works to ensure that each pet is the perfect match for their adoptive family.  Please fill out the application and allow us up to one week to review your application

Before applying, please note:

     (1) We do not ship or transport dogs. We require an in-home visit prior to adoptions. Anything outside of an hour radius of the Peoria/Bloomington, IL area is up to the discretion of the individual foster.

     (2) We require resident pets to be up to date on vaccinations and require dogs to be on year round heartworm prevention.

OUR ADOPTION PROCESS

Step 1: The potential adopter (you) picks a dog/cat you are interested in meeting (If you are unsure between a few or just want to put in a generic application then that can also be noted)

Step 2: Fill out the Adoption Application

Step 3: Pet Pack Rescue Initiative Volunteers will receive your application and check with your references. This includes verifying any current pet(s) are spayed/neutered and UTD on vaccinations & heartworm prevention. If applicable, we also confirm any pet restrictions with your landlord.

Step 4: The application is forwarded to the foster home(s) for the pet(s) listed

Step 5: The foster home contacts the applicant to answer questions and set up a "meet & greet" with the pet.  Depending on distances, schedules, and the needs of the pet, the foster home might set up the meeting at a public location, the PPRI office, or at the adopter's home. There may need to be multiple meetings prior to a decision for or against the adoption. Every person and pet in the household needs to meet the potential dog/cat.

Step 6: (Possibly part of Step 5 or before) The foster home needs to perform an in-home visit. This is to verify that the potential living situation will meet the needs of the pet. In special cases, especially for long distance adoptions, a video home visit may be used.

Step 7: If all parties agree that it is a good match, the dog/cat will be considered "Pending" and removed from the website listing

Step 8: The final Adoption Form & Invoice are sent to the adopter.

Step 9: After the forms are signed/paid, the animal is transferred to their new home, along with their vet records, "About Me" form, other recommended reading, and any accessories necessary for their transition.

Step 10: The adopter follows the adoption checklist to register and identify their new pet. We highly recommend joining our Adopters Facebook Group
